Different Birds in Florida | Through the Lens of Malka Fogel

Florida is a tropical state, which means aside for the beautiful ocean and different trees, there are also plenty of different birds, creatures, and insects! In this blog post, I want to share a couple of different birds I have encountered in the past couple of years, living near the beach and all :)

Pictured is a beautiful Seagull. If you look closely, it is carrying a fish in its mouth. I usually see these birds on the beaches here in Ormond! This was taken at the Granada & A1A Beach Entrance, about a one minute walk from Eden Fresh Cafe.

Next up we have a Male Cardinal. Now cardinals are always flying around and chirping a lot. From my experience, they are usually hiding in trees, as shown in this image, and it is quite difficult to get a great picture. Now it is definitely possible, but I have yet to get a clear shot. But look how beautiful the bird is!! These are pretty common in backyards and areas that have lots of trees.

This is a picture of a Fish Crow! I usually see these on the beach. This picture was taken at the Granada & A1A beach entrance (same as where I took the picture of the Seagull). These are interesting birds. Although I have never seen them eating fish, they are ALWAYS around.

Next up is the Great Egret eating a fish! I believe that fish is a yellowtail, but I am not positive. This picture, again, was taken at the Granada & A1A beach entrance. I used to go to this entrance pretty often. Now I mostly go to the entrances that are 4-8 minute drive away, and get to see some pretty cool birds there too!

I recently saw the Great Egret in a park where there are some small bodies of water (Ames Park) and it caught a fish there too! These birds are so beautiful. Don't you agree?? Of course you do, how could you not? ;)

This is a picture of a Grey Mockingbird. These are backyard birds and are usually found in trees in the backyard of homes or just hanging out in trees around town. They jump around a lot, but are also super cute and little. This was taken in a backyard here in Ormond Beach.

Right here is a brown and white Seagull. I have recently learned that there are a lot of different Seagulls! This image was taken at the Neptune Beach Approach, approximately a 4-minute drive from Eden Fresh Cafe!!

This bird was so big! I took this picture in Port Orange under a bridge. Some family and friends were fishing, but of course I brought my camera and was just snapping pictures the whole time!! This bird is a Great Blue Heron. It was on the dock going to the water for fish but mostly eating pieces of leftover shrimp that were on the dock!

This right here is a Brown Pelican. My father actually took this picture and I figured it was interesting so I would include it in this blog! This bird is also really large. This bird was on the docks under the Granada Bridge, about 2 minutes from Eden Fresh Cafe.

I saw this Sandhill Crane in Davenport Florida. My family was there for a weekend and these birds (4 of them) were just walking throughout the neighborhood. There were some small bodies of water nearby, so maybe they were looking for food. I'm not really sure, but they were so big!! like 4 feet tall.

Now back to beach birds!! Here we have a Snowy White Heron. These are at the beach all the time, and are quite interesting. This was taken at the Granada & A1A beach entrance.

From what I see, the White Ibis birds are usually hanging around parking lots and streets. This picture was taken near The Trails in Ormond Beach, although I have seen these closer to the beach as well.

This right here is a gorgeous Parrot. I took this outside of my families previous home. This was someone's Parrot that had flew away from home. Don't worry! The Parrot made it back safely to its owner. I had actually posted this picture on Facebook and they commented that they were missing their Parrot. Pretty crazy! Behind every image there is a story.

Now this picture was actually taken by my brother, but we do hear plenty of owls around here! I've seen owls, but never at a time when I had my camera out and ready. However, I absolutely love this picture my brother was able to take and figured I would share it with you all (with his permission, of course!)

This is a Red-Shouldered Hawk! These are always hiding and blending in with the trees. It can be difficult to spot them. I saw this in Ames Park (3-4 minutes from EFC) and did not have a chance to snap the picture. I waited around for 25 minutes looking for it and finally found it! Worth the wait I would say :)

This picture was also taken by my brother. It was taken in The Trails. Yep, that is a Red-Shouldered Hawk grabbing a snake!! There are a couple more pictures he took of Red-Shouldered Hawks with different bugs, insects, or small animals, but this one is by far my favorite and I thought it would be interesting to share.
